What is Collagen?

Collagen is a natural skeletal protein and one of the body's most abundant components, accounting for nearly 80% of the body's skin, muscle, and connective tissue.

Collagen is a long, fibrous structural protein that is wound together in a tight helix. This helix is what gives collagen, and your skin, such great strength and elasticity. Numerous elixes bind together to form collagen fibers, which are woven together in our bodies like threads in fabric to form a framework into which new cells can grow. Without these fibers, the skin just cannot hold its shape, making it look saggy and less supple.

By the age of 45, your body will have lost 30% of its collagen.

Degradation and depletion of collagen in the skin is the main reason for the formation of lines, wrinkles and the appearance of aging. Collagen is affected by aging in two ways. First, our bodies actually produce less collagen as we age. It is thought that from the age of 25, your body loses collagen at a rate of 1.5% per year, so by the age of 35, your body will have lost 15% of its natural collagen and by the age of 45, 30% will be lost. This is when you really start to notice a change in your skin’s elasticity and texture. Second, collagen is particularly susceptible to free radical damage, a result of normal aging. Free radical damage to collagen causes the normally elastic and free-moving collagen fibers to become stiff and less mobile. Therefore, supplementation with pure collagen can reduce the signs of aging on our skin.

Beauty Without Surgery

Every year, millions of dollars are spent on products and treatments to combat the external signs of aging. Many women turn to expensive Botox© or collagen injections, or even drastic surgery, to maintain their youthful looks. However, these options can only target specific areas and the results are only temporary. They are also very expensive and need repeating on a regular basis.

Collagen is used in beauty products for enhancing hair and nail growth and for their positive influence on the skin. Collagen is absorbed through the intestinal wall into the blood stream and from there it goes directly to connective tissues.

Anti-Aging From the Inside-Out

Have you ever noticed how beautiful the skin of a young child is? One of the most obvious signs of youth is seen in the skin. The older we get, the more noticeable the beating our skin takes, from external factors such as radiation from the sun, pollution and smoking, as well as internal factors, such as low immunity, stress, poor diet and lack of sleep. Over time, these factors add up so the effects on our skin are more visible as we age. Sure, we can dye our hair or try to stay as thin as an adolescent, but in the end your skin is a deciding factor in how old we look. Truly beautiful skin is a result of healthy skin – that which is cared for both on the surface and from within, with proper care of the whole body. How you appear on the outside is a reflection of your inner health.

At Pure Collagen Skincare, we develop skin care products that defy age because we use the theory of inside-out beauty – skin care products that restore most of the key elements of healthy skin to levels of youth by coupling collagen supplements with topical skin care treatments. Skin wrinkles and sags as the body ages due to a combination of factors including stress, poor nutrition, sleep deprivation, alcohol consumption, and exposure to cigarette smoke, sunlight, and pollution.

Ultimately, a beauty system that treats the skin from both the inside, through supplementation, and from the outside through topical application, is the best for beauty and longevity of the skin. This is what we mean at Pure Collagen Skincare by the “Anti-Aging from the Inside Out”-approach to skin care.
